Have a good description in the description tag of your HTML which is the coding that makes your website and is what the Search Engines look at you need a description that has your keywords in as near to the beginning as possible with around 25 words in and no keywords repeated more than 3 times.

If you are going to try a promote your site your self when submitting your site go to each search engine in turn following there instruction on how to add your URL (www.yourname.com) rather than using software available that lets you type in your details once and then promises to add your site to 400+  Search Engines,  as most Search Engines class this as spamming and will not register your site with them and you  will probably find yourself receiving lots of junk mail after using the software.
